On January 19, 2018 Southeastern Louisiana Head Coach Ron Roberts resigned and accepted the role as the new Defensive Coordinator at the University Louisiana-Lafayette. Now ten days into finding a new Head Coach, this has left Southeastern Louisiana Athletic Director Jay Artigues in uncharted territory with having to find a new Head Coach only weeks before National Signing Day. However, has Artigues found his new head coach to lead the Lions back to National prominence?
I am being told by multiple sources, SLU is set to hire former UTSA Offensive Coordinator Frank Scelfo. Scelfo, 58, has had multiple stops in his professional career which include Tulane (OC 1999-2006), Louisiana Tech (OC 2007-2009), Arizona (QB’s Coach 2010-2011), Jacksonville (Qb’s Coach/Sr. Assistant 2013-2015), and UTSA (OC 2016-2017). Scelfo was relieved of his duties this past year as the Roadrunner’s Offensive Coordinator after some offensive struggles late in the season. Scelfo led UTSA to the 65th and 82nd ranked offense in the nation in the past two season.
In his time in the college ranks, Scelfo has molded multiple QB’s who have gone on to the NFL which included Shaun King, Patrick Ramsey, J.P Losman, Lester Richard, and Nick Foles who has led the Philadelphia Eagles to the Superbowl.
Scelfo is known to most to be a great offensive mind, and will want to bring a tough, high scoring attack to SELU! #AYS
